What Are Developmental Milestones?

Milestones are skills that most children can do by a certain age. They include how children play, learn, speak, act, and move.

The CDC provides free milestone resources from 2 months through 5 years. Families can use the checklists to learn what to expect and talk with their child's doctor or teacher about development.

Areas of Development

CDC Milestone Checklists

You Know Your Child Best

Milestone checklists are a helpful way to monitor development, but they are not a substitute for developmental screening. If your child is missing milestones, loses a skill they previously had, or you have concerns, talk with your child's healthcare provider. Acting early can help connect children and families with additional support.
